Fresh off the breakout success of her Freeform sitcom Grown-ish, Yara Shahidi is in talks for a starring role in the next big YA film adaptation.
The actress/activist is in negotiations to lead Warner Bros. production of The Sun is Also a Star.
The book from Nicola Yoon centers on Natasha, a girl in New York City whose pragmatism is challenged when she falls in love right before her family is set to be deported back to Jamaica.
Warner Bros., along with MGM previously collaborated with Yoon on the movie version of Everything, Everything. The success of that film has led to their latest partnership.
Tracey Oliver, who wrote Girls Trip, is penning the film.
Shahidi can currently be seen in Grown-ish, which airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on Freeform.
