With the news of Wonder Woman surpassing $800 million worldwide with this weekend’s box office take, the film that already has numerous achievements under its belt has now become the highest-grossing superhero origin film of all time domestically.

The Patty Jenkins directed solo entry about Diana, Princess of Themyscira, won over critics and fans alike, quickly becoming one of the most talked about superhero films of the year.

Due to the success of the film, it is not surprising that the talented Jenkins is in final negotiations to return to direct the 2019 Wonder Woman sequel. No plot details have been formally released, but it’s rumored that it will take place sometime during the Cold War and pit Diana against the Soviets.

Regardless, it has been confirmed that Geoff Johns is in the process of penning the Wonder Woman 2 script, so for now it’s simply a waiting game. Hopefully, the second installment will be just as triumphant as the first.
