Studio Ghibli’s iconic movie My Neighbor Totorofirst came out in 1988 and if you don’t know anything about it, it’s an animated fantasy film directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It follows two young girls Satsuki and Mei living with their father when the two girls interact with the friendly wood spirits in their backyard. The charming film has won many awards and has grown in popularity throughout the years, particularly for its cute characters.
Well, the sequel has more cuteness and charm. It follows the youngest daughter Mei and a smaller and perhaps younger version of the Catbus. The sequel is called Mei and the Kittenbus, and it is 14 minutes long.

Hayao Miyazaki wrote and directed the sequel. It does take place after the first movie and even features the same voice actress for Mei, Chika Sakamoto. Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki don’t ever really do sequels to their films; the closest thing they’ve ever done is making Whispers of the Heart spin-off The Cat Returns.

The sequel first aired in 2003 and has only been screened twice in the United States. Mei and the Kittenbus will run from November 1 until November 30 at the Ghibli Museum in Japan.
