Despite the show just having gone live on Friday, The Punisher’s showrunner, Steve Lightfoot, is already fielding questions about the Netflix series’ hypothetical sophomore season. According to him, however, at present, there are no status updates to offer. As far as anyone knows, Netflix has yet to green light a second run of the show.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lightfoot addressed the possibility of a second season:

“No, I genuinely don’t know how the Netflix system works with making those calls, and I assume once they do [make a call] they’ll tell Marvel and Marvel will tell me and we’ll jump back to it. But I’m very excited to do so. I think we left both Frank and Billy in places where there are so many ways to jump off from if that second season comes. We can do anything with them, in truth.”

Thus far, The Punisher has generally been received well by critics and fans. With Daredevil heading into Season 3 and Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist all preparing sophomore efforts, it stands to reason the Frank Castle-centric series will be given the go-ahead on another run as well.
