Right before Marvel Studios celebrates its 10 year anniversary, studio president Kevin Feige, along with Disney CEO Bob Iger and Marvel Cinematic Universe stars participated in a cover feature for Vanity Fair.
In addition to discussing the history of how the studio came about and the bumps on the road to global domination, Feige also talked about what the future holds for the MCU.
First the bad news, Avengers 4, which hits theaters May 3, 2019, will be the “finale” of the studios original 22 movie plan.
With contracts set to expire for the core team of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johannson and Jeremy Renner, fans should begin preparing themselves for some changes.
“There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after,” said Feige. “I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”
The producer stresses that fans will still have plenty of exciting films to look forward to.
“Twenty two movies in, and we’ve got another 20 movies on the docket that are completely different from anything that’s come before—intentionally,” said Feige.
Iger also explained that the next batch of movies will take viewers to new settings.
“We’re looking for worlds that are completely separate—geographically or in time—from the worlds that we’ve already visited,” he said.
One of those new worlds will be Wakanda when Black Panther claws its way into theaters February 16, 2018.
