It was announced yesterday that Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy had been cast in the New Mutants as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane and Illyana Rasputin/Magik respectively.

With this casting news comes some more information. It appears that James McAvoy will not appear in the film as Professor Charles Xavier.

Borys Kit from The Hollywood Reporter tweeted about the news, based on his sources. Check out the tweet below:

On NEW MUTANTS: other rumored castings – James McAvoy as Prof X – not true. He is not in movie, per sources.

McAvoy’s contract was only for three films, the third being 2016’s X-men: Apocalypse. However, based on Simon Kinberg’s comments from last May about Professor X having a part in New Mutants, it was anticipated that the Fox would re-sign the actor so that he could continue to portray the famed founder of the X-men.

But as it stands right now, it looks like we won’t be seeing McAvoy reprising his role. But there is still time for that that to change.

What do you think – would you like to see James McAvoy back as Professor Xavier in the New Mutants movie? Let us know in the comment section below.

New Mutants is slated to hit theaters next year on April 13, 2018.
