Although Hugh Jackman hung up the claws with one last outing as the popular cigar smoking, trash talking, Canadian mutant, Wolverine in this year’s, Logan – it doesn’t mean that we won’t have something to look forward to as it pertains to mutants with claws and healing factors.
Logan director, James Mangold is keen on continuing the story from the perspective of Laura Kinney/X-23. Superbly played by young newcomer, Dafne Keen, Laura was exciting to watch and definitely a scene stealer. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mangold said, “We’re just working on a script.”

Mangold pointed out Patty Jenkins‘ success with Wonder Woman and the need for female-fronted superhero films. Mangold said:
“Patty’s success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist. The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
Although Hugh Jackman won’t be back for the sequel, he is a fan of the character and his Logan co-star, Keen. Jackman said, “No, I won’t be a producer on a Laura sequel. But I will be lining up on the Thursday night at 10 p.m. to watch it though. She is just phenomenal.”

Hopefully it won’t be too long before we see X-23 leading her own solo film. But in the meantime, you can check out Logan on digital and Blu-Ray/DVD now.
