Announced just this morning, Issa Rae has become the new face of Covergirl Cosmetics.

She announced it today on Twitter and Instagram, while showing off some peeks of her modeling look:

“I remember being an awkward black girl in high school, reading the pages of my favorite magazines, casually flipping through Covergirl ads, singing their slogan in my head. Never EVER in my life did I imagine I’d be one. I am SO honored and SO excited for what’s to come.”

@issarae YES, you better believe it beautiful, the secret is finally out and we couldn’t be happier! YOU 👏🏽 ARE 👏🏾EVERYTHING 👏🏿 and we are so honored to welcome you to the #COVERGIRL family! 👸🏾💋 #COVERGIRLMADE

Issa Rae will be joining Covergirl, which already features Zendaya, Janelle Monae, and Queen Latifah, who has her own Covergirl line, “The Queen Collection”.

We’re not sure what her campaign will look like yet, but in an official statement, Issa talks about the importance of representation and makeup:

“My character is ever-evolving, and makeup is a tool to help transform my persona – whether for a role I play in content that I produce, or the different roles I take on in my life. Becoming a COVERGIRL means a lot because the brand recognizes just how important it is for people to embrace their individuality and express themselves in unique and diverse ways.”

Needless to say, we can’t wait to see how Issa Rae expresses herself in this new campaign! If we’re lucky, maybe she’ll follow in the footsteps of Rihanna and Queen Latifah to produce her own line.
