An alien is back to invade our television screens again.
More than ten years after its last episode, Entertainment Weekly announced that Nickelodeon has given the greenlight for Jhonen Vasquez’s animated satire Invader Zim to come back for a TV movie.
The show has been described as “seminal societal satire”, and was beyond its time when it first premiered in 2001. The show followed the alien Zim, who has dreams of taking over Earth to gain favor with his home planet. Accompanied by GIR, his robot companion, Zim and GIR explore not just Earth’s landscape but also observing the human condition and how to “conquer” it. Invader Zim is also the third series set to be rebooted by the Nickelodeon, as it was previously announced that Hey Arnold! and Rocko’s Modern Life are in production to be revived.
All four original voice cast members, Richard Horvitz (Zim), Rikki Simons (GIR), Andy Berman (Dib), and Melissa Fahn (Gaz) will return for the 90-minute movie. It’s been also revealed that the TV movie’s plot picks up on Zim’s “perpetually desperate and delusional” new plan to achieve his imperialistic dreams.
