The Holdoversfelt like a cup of hot chocolate during the dead of winter for audiences, with its wholesome plot, engaging characters and heartfelt narrative. Miramax believes that there’s still more to be done with the concept of Alexander Payne’s movie. A television series based on The Holdovers is in development at the company. Not much is known about what the show will be about. But based on the positive reception to the movie, it can be assumed that it will follow students who don’t go back home for the holiday. Miramax is reportedly looking for Alexander Payne to be involved in the series in some capacity.

The Holdovers movie introduced Angus Tully (Dominic Sessa), a rebellious student from Barton who stayed at the school for the Christmas season. The young man had an intense rivalry with Paul Hunham (Paul Giamatti). The wise teacher wasn’t popular with the students of the school and the fellow professors who worked there. Over the course of the movie, both characters discover that they’re actually lonely souls looking for company. Some quality time together turned this narrative of animosity into an instant classic when it comes to holiday films.

The Holdovers helped to launch the career of Dominic Sessa. Since the release of the film, the young performer has been cast in a wide variety of projects. Sessa will appear in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, the next installment of the popular franchise that follows a group of magicians who also work as criminals. The artist has also been cast in Tow. The drama will be the next titled directed by Stephanie Laing. Time will tell if the new Holdovers television series will boost the career of young actors, just like the movie did.
