The first trailer for Highest 2 Lowest has been released by A24. Spike Lee and Denzel Washington will work together once again in this adaptation of the movie by Akira Kurosawa. The trailer for the upcoming production features Washington asking another character if they’re ready for their life to change through a voiceover. Several shots can be seen with Denzel running through New York City. The veteran actor is set to portray David King. Nothing will stop the protagonist of this story from becoming the biggest star the world has ever seen.
The premise of Highest 2 Lowest will follow Denzel Washington’s protagonist as he is recognized as the “beast ears in the business”. The titan music mogul will find himself involved in a ransom plot sooner rather than later. David’s perfect life will quickly become stuck in a life-or-death situation. Spike Lee returns to bring his own vision to the classic directed by Akira Kurosawa. Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera and Ice Spice will also be a part of the cast of Highest 2 Lowest. The movie will hold its world premiere at this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival. After that, the project will receive a limited theatrical release before heading to Apple TV+.
Spike Lee Returns
Highest 2 Lowest will be the first movie directed by Spike Lee since the release of Da 5 Bloods. The Netflix war drama starring Delroy Lindo and Chadwick Boseman sent audiences through an emotional narrative about regret and forgiveness. Five years after that, Highest 2 Lowest will allow the acclaimed director to capture Denzel’s charisma through intense action sequences. Spike Lee also worked on BlacKkKlansman and Chi-raq in recent years. The world is ready for the return of one of the most acclaimed filmmakers of his generation.
Highest 2 Lowest will premiere in theaters on August 22, 2025. After that, the movie will be available for streaming on Apple TV+.
