Cinemax has been known recently for action series’ such as Strike Back and Banshee. Today, TVLine.com reports that there will be another action series based on a legendary martial arts icon.

According to TVLine, the drama will be set in the crime-ridden Chinatown of 1870s San Francisco. The protagonist will be a Chinese immigrant and martial-arts expert Ah Sahm, who “becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown’s most formidable crime families”.

Jonathan Tropper will be the show creator and executive producer. Tropper is known for his other Cinemax creation, Banshee. Additionally, the Fast and the Furious franchise director Justin Lin will also be an executive producer.

Cinemax programming president Kary Antholis expressed excitement in a statement earlier today. “Warrior follows in the spirit of the tradition of adrenalized Cinemax dramas that we established with Strike Back and Banshee”.

The first season will begin shooting in Cape Town, South Africa this fall, and is set to have ten episodes.
