Zombie shows hardly ever go out of style, so Netlix is bringing that in and mixing it with the artistic styles of Korean cinema to bring us Kingdom.

Viewers are expected to experience the show during Korea’s Joseon dynasty. The story will follow a crown prince who is sent on a suicide mission to investigate a mysterious and deadly outbreak that threatens the kingdom. Cue the zombie apocalypse that could potentially destroy all of Korea and the rest of the world.

Created by film director Kim Seong-hun and television writer Kim Eun-hee, Kingdom will be Netflix’s very own 8-episode series. These artistic forces join the Korean production company Astroy to deliver this medieval-era fantasy to a wide audience. Writer Kim exclaims her expectation of the show, stating:

“I have been working on Kingdom since 2011. I wanted to write a story that reflects the fears and anxiety of modern times but explored through the lens of a romantic fascination of the historical Joseon period. Working with Netflix helps us to unlock this creative vision for Kingdom and I am excited to further build this unique story with the director for whom I have tremendous respect.”

This will be Netflix’s second original Korean series following the romance Love Alarms that was announced earlier this year. It will be exciting to see the diversity in the zombie genre and providing a mainstream avenue of Korean projects.

Kingdom is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in 2018 across 190 countries.
