SyFy’s post apocalyptic, time travel drama 12 Monkeys has been renewed for a fourth and final season.
The cult hit is very loosely based on the 1995 Bruce Willis film of the same name. The series follows James Cole as he travels back through time to save the world from being destroyed by a virus. He looks for Dr. Cassie Railly, whom he believes can help find a cure.
In the course of all the time jumping and mysterious conspiracies, James and Cassie develop a love story that spans through the past, present and future.
In a nod toward the popularity of binge watching, SyFy will premiere all 10 episodes of season three over three nights. The first four episodes premiere Friday, May 19 at 8 pm ET, followed by three episodes Saturday, May 20 and three episodes Sunday, May 21.
Though it’s a new way of launching a show, it also sounds like SyFy is trying to quickly burn off a popular show with low ratings, while receiving extra publicity.
