The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are now streaming on Disney+!
Executive producer Sana Amanat and showrunner and executive producer Dario Scardapane were excited to work in the world of Daredevil.
The pair discussed the organic process of adapting long-established characters for TV, emphasizing the importance of staying true to the character’s roots while pushing creative boundaries and which comic characters they might like to explore next.
Check out the full interview with Sana Amanat and Dario Scardapane below:
A self-proclaimed “nerd,” Amanat is no stranger to Marvel Comics characters. Having worked as a Marvel Comics editor, she co-created Kamala Khan, a.k.a., Ms. Marvel and was an editor for some very exciting Daredevil comic runs. Amanat spoke about what it was like to bring that wealth of knowledge to the Marvel Television shows, including her past work on the Ms. Marvel series.
“Oh, it’s so fun! I’m sort of the, I’m like, nerd alert in the writer’s room. Like, just coming in and being like, ‘Dario, can we do this?!’ So, it’s really fun. It feels very organic. Just being an editor and being a producer, my job is to be able to take the material that existed. I mean, again, these characters have existed for a very, very long time, and our job is to work with creators who are going to take it to the next level and continue to still be true to who these characters ultimately are. So for me, I mean, I grew up understanding that in comics, and now expanding that into the TV space has been such a thrill and a joy, but I am. I’m nerd and fan first,” Amanat shared.
Finding the perfect balance between emotionally charged moments and action-packed ones can be challenging. However, it was something that Scardapane navigated with ease. When I asked him how it was to craft these moments through the series.
“I mean, for 30 years, that’s what I’ve been trying to do in almost everything I do, and Daredevil‘s one of those golden opportunities as a comic book and as the show, which I loved. It always had that great balance of like, ‘Oh, my God, this is so kick ass, ouch’ you know? And oh, I really care about how these people care about each other. So it’s always about finding something that’s thrilling and adrenaline producing, and then finding the heart and the humanity. And this is one of those stories that is so in its DNA. I think Daredevil‘s always been that, you know? You always feel from that,” Scardapane shared.
The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again are available to stream exclusively on Disney+.
