Spring is upon us, and what better way to ring in the new season then with a rom-com that will have you smiling from ear to ear. This is exactly why you need to see You, Me & Tuscany starring Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey in theatres this weekend!

Directed by Kat Coiro, You, Me & Tuscany features Bailey as Anna, a young woman who is trying to navigate her life and connec with herself after experiencing a loss. Anna ends up on an unplanned trip to Tuscany, Italy, where she meets, Michael (Page).

Ahead of the film’s release, I had the pleasure of talking with the film’s stars about falling into step with one another, what they enjoyed about their characters, magical on-set moments, and more.

Check out the interview with Regé-Jean Page and Halle Bailey below:

Regarding working together, Page and Bailey called it “easy.”

Page said, “It was easy. The secret is that when you have a co-star that you trust, chemistry is just a byproduct. It happens easily. Romances, romantic comedies – there’s just an emotional trust fall every day, and when you trust your co-star to catch you, and I think we both trusted each other to catch each other, it means you can play. You can come up with the creative things, and you can start surprising each other. So it was fun and it was easy.”

Both Page and Bailey’s charaters are very relatable, and the audience is sure to enjoy them. When I asked the actors what about their characters they enjoyed most or related to most, they had a lot to share.

“I really resonated with Anna’s character, like it’s what attracted me to the script when I first read it, because I love the fact that she’s a bit messy. She doesn’t really have it all figured out, but she’s brave, she has gumption, and she’s impulsive. And I love those things about her, and I kind of wanted to adopt those things from her and take them home as Halle, and be a bit more like her in that way, because it pays off. You know, she goes through a journey, but you do see her figure it out in the end. So that was something that was exciting for me, because it felt real and as a young woman, and for all the young women watching on screen, I think it’s important to see like, oh, you don’t have to have it all figured out, but you will get there eventually,” Bailey said.

Page shared, “Oh, I think that I always enjoy characters that have somewhere to go through the movie. I think that I like that he didn’t start out perfect. He started out in a really tough spot, and he needed to learn stuff about himself before he was worthy of our heroine in the movie. He had to grow a little bit, he had to open up a little bit. He had to be a better version of himself before he could be the romantic hero for Anna.”

Of course, being part of a rom-com is pretty magical in itself, but set in a place like Tuscany could only have brought an even more enchanting feeling on set.

“I mean, for me, I loved our scenes in the vineyards. It was beautiful, especially the one where we got to run down the vineyard. That’s like a dream sequence moment for me, like just running, running through the fields,” Bailey shared.

“Of course, it was a dream for Halle, because I was meant to be able to catch her. I was like, you know, I’m gonna be a gentleman about this. I got 40% – Halle’s gone. No chance I was ever sure to catch Halle. So that was a revelation and a learning moment for everyone involved,” Page added with a laugh.

You, Me & Tuscany hits theatres on April 10!
