Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere and press junket for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).
During the junket, I was able to sit down with director Cathy Yan where she talked about what drew her to Birds of Prey, what her experience has been like being a woman of colour and director in Hollywood, and what her favourite scene to shoot was.

Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the Joker broke up and while that’s good news for Harley, it also puts a target on her back. On the run from a plethora of enemies, including dangerous crime lord, Roman Sionis a.k.a. Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and his right-hand man, Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina), Harley ends up with an unlikely tag-along in Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) and a trio of badass women who are also looking for emancipation in Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), Dinah Lance a.k.a. Huntress (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Helena Bertinelli a.k.a. Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
