It’s always great to dive into a fun action-adventure movie, and Fountain of Youth delivers just that.

With an all-star cast including John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Laz Alson, Carmen Ejogo, Eiza Gonzalez, and Domhnall Gleeson, Fountain of Youth is a great movie to add to your watchlist this summer. The film follows estranged siblings and their team as they track down the mythical Fountain of Youth. Will they succeed in finding it? Well, you’ll have to watch the movie to find that out!

Ahead of the film’s premiere on Apple TV+, I had the fantastic opportunity to chat with Carmen Ejogo, who portrays Deb in the movie. Ejogo enjoyed working on the film due to the amazing locations they travelled to, working with the cast and director Guy Ritchie, as well as getting to play a more comedic role this time around – something she hadn’t been able to do in her past work.

Check out the full interview with Carmen Ejogo below:

If you’re aware of Ejogo’s past work, you’ll know that she typically takes on very serious and dramatic roles. However, in Fountain of Youth, she had the chance to delve into the comedic side.

Ejogo said, “Well, I knew I was going to potentially be the comic relief. And I don’t get to do that very often, if ever. Actually, I think my resume is pretty serious, so the idea to get to sort of play something that was a little lighter and more fun was was, like, super exciting to me.”

Diving into the comedy and fun wasn’t the only thing that intrigued Ejogo. The actress loved that they were actually on set to film the various globetrotting segments of the movie.

She said, “And then the locations! The idea of going to Egypt is, you know, has been like a lifelong dream, and I think probably for a lot of people. To actually fulfill it on on somebody else’s dime, frankly, and in a way that is super stylish, and all access is just like the way to go. And we got to do things at the pyramids that I just was like – this is shocking that we are able to blow up trucks and do insane things, actually on site, respectfully, but on site. And it was just amazing that we got to actually act in the environment that we’re trying to sort of play and not just be sort of in front of a green screen or CGI sort of situation. So that was appealing.”

For Ejogo, working on Fountain of Youth reminded her of some of the films she grew up watching, which added another layer of enjoyment.

Ejogo shared, “And, yeah, just the idea of making a film that kind of harkens back to the sort of movies I grew up watching when I was younger, that those sort of adventure films that we associate action films that we associate with people like Harrison Ford and, you know, that kind of good stuff. So lots of reasons!”

Of course, Fountain of Youth deals with a mythological place, so when asked the question what mythological place or creature Ejogo would want to be the first to find, she had a surprising answer.

“Oh, my gosh, the first. I don’t know why the Cyclops just came to mind. I’ve no idea,” Ejogo said with a laugh. “I have no interest in ever meeting a cyclops. So I don’t know why I said that, but that was the first thing that came to mind, possibly a unicorn. But I feel like then, what do you do with it? Like what? I don’t even know what the traits of a unicorn actually are, other than looking amazing and unique. But, yeah, one of those.”

Fountain of Youth is now streaming exclusively on Apple TV+.
