Interview: Brandon Perea Talks ‘NOPE’, Working With Jordan Peele & His Hopes For Future Projects

Jordan Peele is back with his latest blockbuster movie NOPE. Although not much is known about the details of the film, I had the chance to sit down with Brandon Perea, who plays Angel.

Peele had a different version of Angel in mind when he was crafting the movie, but because of Perea’s audition, Peele reworked the script so that Perea would fit the role. During our conversation, Perea spoke about what that meant to him as an actor and what an impact it was hearing that from Peele himself. Peele also stated that Perea’s character is meant to be the audience avatar, meaning we are able to follow the story from his perspective. Perea spoke about how he dug into the character and created a whole backstory so that he could relate to it in a much more grounded way.

Perea went on to speak about how amazing it was working with Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer and Steven Yeun, and Perea praised how easy they were to work with. One of Perea’s long-term goals is to become a director, and he revealed one of the things he took away from watching Peele direct on set.

This isn’t Perea’s first time in the sci-fi genre. Before NOPE, he was in the Netflix series The OA. We briefly spoke about that and the hopes of it getting to close the show properly. Perea then went on to mention that his future hope is to be in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as Sam Alexander a.k.a. Nova (He’s got my vote for the role!).
