‘God of War’ And Disney’s IP Shine At The PlayStation Showcase
In their first major games showcase in nearly a year, Sony showed off upcoming third-party games and ended with some incredible sequels of their own. PlayStation has some of the best studios working in games period, but this event was all about one thing: God of War: Ragnarok.

Starting with The House of Mouse, Disney IP was all over this PlayStation event. Arguably the three most exciting moments came from a trailer featuring worlds you can find on Disney+.
To start the show, Aspyr acknowledged the often rumored Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) remake is real. The exciting part for Sony fans is that the remake is not only coming to PS5 but it’s also a console launch exclusive for PlayStation. This is a huge get for the platform especially for a game that has deep ties to the original Xbox. KOTOR is easily one of the best Star Wars games ever made and a reason many new fans will be scrambling to get a PS5 when it launches.

Next Marvel swung by the showcase in the form of two titles from Insomniac Games. Perhaps the biggest shock of the show was a new Wolverine game. No details were given, but if the MCU faithful has their way, this Logan starring adventure will be in the same universe as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales. Could this be the start of an Insomniac games universe? Is this new Wolverine game a full $70 experience or more of a short precise story like Miles Morales? If it is a shorter run how many Miles size games could they add to that world in a 5-year span? Give us a Doctor Strange, Daredevil, and Logan game all at the Miles length. Please Sony, we’re begging you.

Once again Insomniac is carrying the PS5 era by announcing a second title in the same showcase. Spider-Man 2 is officially coming in 2023. The first trailer features Miles and Peter back in action. Pete’s portion heavily features robotic spider legs akin to the Iron Spider suit. The smart money would say that Peter probably has some new mechanics to get him on the level of Miles with his camo and shock abilities. Who’s talking in the trailer? Yes, we get a Venom reveal (the design is incredible by the way), but could the VO be coming from Kraven the Hunter or perhaps Morbius? Last note there was a lot of team-up action for our two spider boys in this PS5 exclusive… please have co-op, please have co-op, please have CO-OP!

One last Marvel title was shown in the form of Square-Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy arriving in late October. Fingers crossed that this game rocks. It seems to draw heavily from Gunn’s film portrayals, but it also has Cosmo the SpaceDog. As long as players can pet that little dude it should be a-ok.
Square showed off another title with impressive magic-based gameplay. Forspoken was briefly shown previously but this full reveal has a lot going for it. Especially the visuals in combat.

Rounding out the show Sony confirmed a pair of Uncharted titles are making their way to PS5 and PC. Another Gran Tourismo game is on the horizon, coming March 4th, 2022 and as many suspected God of War: Ragnarok was fully revealed during the show. In the short video, we get an incredible amount of story, settings, and gameplay. We see returning characters, new moves, a dog sled, and Atreus riding what appears to be Severus Snape Patronus. God of War delivered and while the overall showcase was a mixed bag, Sony proved there are many reasons to be a happy PS5 owner today.
