5 ‘DC Future State’ Comic Books To Read Right Now
For the past few weeks, DC has shown us some of its new best and brightest within the pages of DC Future State.
For those unfamiliar with DC Future State, it is a two-month epic event from DC spun out of the finale of the Dark Nights: Death Metal series (written by Scott Snyder, artwork by Greg Capullo) and it will introduce some new players in the superhero game.
This new slate of DC Future State books will take readers on an adventure to the near future and will include some of the younger heroes taking on the mantles of some of DC’s most iconic heroes including Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and more. It all makes for something that is quite brilliant and exciting, so it’s definitely a two-month journey that you won’t want to miss!
Here is my personal list of the five DC Future State comic books that you should read right now:
DC Future State: Wonder Woman #1

Deep in the Amazon Rainforest, Yara Flor is taking up the mantle of Wonder Woman in the absence of Diana Prince. In her first solo outing, Yara is kicking ass and taking names, vowing to protect Man’s World and everything within it. However, a trip to the Underworld to rescue one of her Themysciran sisters may prove perilous. Perhaps a visit with Hades will prove to be more than she bargained for.
Both written and drawn by the amazing Joelle Jones, DC Future State: Wonder Woman is a book you definitely don’t want to miss.
DC Future State: The Next Batman #1

Make way for the new Dark Knight in the form of Tim Fox. Gotham City has always been dangerous, but since the mayor shifted to a private law enforcement group who looks to put a stop to “masked crime”, the streets of Gotham have become even more deadly. Will Batman be able to keep the city safe? Well, you’ll just have to read the book to find out.
Also featuring stories about the Outsiders and Arkham Knights, DC Future State: The Next Batman easily makes it onto this list. Be sure to check it out.
DC Future State: Immortal Wonder Woman #1

Immortal goddess, Diana Prince, finds herself in a world after the Age of Heroes. However, when a threat that even Darkseid cannot face reveals itself, it is up to Diana to take on the battle. A fantasy-driven story unfolds from Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad and art by Jen Bartel, to add another element to Wonder Woman’s 80-year mythos.
Featuring Nubia: Part One by L.L. McKinney with artwork by Alitha Martinez, DC Future: State Immortal Wonder Woman should most definitely be on your comic book reads radar!
DC Future State: Green Lantern #1

John Stewart and an elite team of Green Lanterns are trapped behind enemy lines. When the Central Power battery goes dark, the team are in for the fight for their lives. With the entire Green Lantern Corps now defenseless, the crew must do what it can to survive by any means necessary – with the risk of peril ever-growing.
With tales from Jessica Cruz and Guy Gardner coming in from across the cosmos, DC Future State: Green Lantern #1 is an exciting book for any fans of the Green Lantern Corps.
DC Future State: Justice League #1

Get ready to see a new team of superheroes come together for a new Justice League. Unlike the old League, these team members have some new rules, including not knowing one another’s personal identities (though there are a few exceptions). However, when their greatest foes end up murdered, all signs point back to the Justice League itself. Who is truly behind this madness? Well, you’ll have to read the Justice League in their new adventure to find out.
Also including a new story featuring the Justice League Dark team, DC Future State: Justice League is definitely a must-read.
Honourable Mention – DC Future State: Harley Quinn #1

If you’re a fan of Dr. Harleen Quinzel a.k.a. Harley Quinn then you definitely want to check out DC Future State: Harley Quinn #1. Harley is locked up and former Scarecrow, Dr. Jonathan Crane is in need of her assistance in order to capture some of the villains who are running about in Gotham. Dr. Crane and the Magistrate tap into Harley’s knowledge of the other villains in an effort to track down one of the most sinister villain’s of all, Black Mask.
However, Harley has more on her mind than helpful efforts; she has revenge on her mind. Written by Stephanie Phillips with artwork by Simone Di Meo, a new era in Harley’s story begins here and you won’t want to miss it.
All of the books mentioned above are available from your local comic book shops or digitally. Be sure to grab yourself some copies!
