Interview: Aidan Gallagher and David Castaneda Talk Season 2 of ‘The Umbrella Academy’, Working With Ritu Arya & More

The Umbrella Academy is less than three days away and the excitement is through the roof! If you haven’t already, make sure to check out our review right here! Continuing my ongoing coverage of the second season of The Umbrella Academy, I had a chance to sit down with Aidan Gallagher and David Castaneda who play Five and Diego/2.

During our chat, the two spoke about returning for season 2 and being more familiar with their characters and what it was like working with the newest cast member, Ritu Arya (who plays Lila in the series). We also spoke about some spoilers, but that part of the conversation will run after the series drops!

Check out the interview below and make sure to watch our interview with Robert Sheehan and Justin H. Min:

Official Season 2 Synopsis

Five (Aidan Gallagher) warned his family that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right – the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960.

Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which – spoiler alert! – turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.

Where Are Diego and Five Now?

DIEGO – Lands in September 1, 1963.

Diego has been locked up for delusional claims about JFK being assassinated. He breaks out of the hospital with his new friend Lila, for whom he starts to develop feelings. Per usual, he wants to save both the day and the president all on his own to prove to the family he has worth and can make a difference in the world.

FIVE – Lands in November 25, 1963.

Five is the last to land in Dallas and arrives to find another apocalypse. Upon learning this Doomsday is the result of the family’s actions, he once again uses his intellect and powers to wrangle his siblings to try and save the world.
