Marvel Studios and Sony Shuffle Dates for Key Films Including ‘Doctor Strange’ and ‘Into The Spider-Verse’ Sequels
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have announced that they will be changing the release dates of some of their upcoming key films amidst the current global pandemic.
For Sony, this is their second announcement this past week that deal with the move of their key films that follow Spider-Man lore. Earlier in the week, the studio revealed the official name of their Venom sequel, while also moving the movie to a new release date. In addition, the studio has pushed back the sequel for their game-changing animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Initially set to be released on Apr. 8, 2022, the film will be released months later on Oct. 7, 2022. Sony also shifted the date of the untitled third movie in the current Spider-Man series and it will now be released on Nov. 5, 2021, leaving its prior summer release date of July 16, 2021 behind.
As the Spider-Man flicks are done alongside Marvel Studios, the Disney-owned company had to shift some of the dates of their upcoming films, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Sam Raimi would direct the Doctor Strange sequel and that the release date would be Nov. 5, 2021. However, the studio has moved the film yet again and now it will be released on March 25, 2022.
Initially, the third film in the MCU Spider-Man trilogy was to be released after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. So, just how these shifts might affect the plans Marvel Studios has for their next phase remains to be seen.
These shifts also mean that Marvel Studios also had to change the dates of some of their other films again, including Thor: Love and Thunder (which will see Natalie Portman return as Jane Foster) was moved up a week from Feb. 18, 2022 to Feb. 11, 2022.
