Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ‘In The Heights’ Delayed Until 2021

Highly anticipated musical In The Heights is the latest in a string of films to have their release date changed. It was announced today that the film will be delayed for a year due to the current global COVID-19 pandemic.

The film which was originally slated to come out on June 26 of this year, will now arrive in theaters on June 18, 2021. The film is based on Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes’ 2008 Tony-winning musical of the same name.

According to Deadline, during a chat with Rosie O’Donnell, Miranda said, “We were literally recording the score when all of this started happening. There’s a lot that remains to be done on that movie. We were finishing the score and the mixing and just getting the music exactly right.”

In The Heights is directed by Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians), with a script from Marc Klein and a screenplay from Hudes, and stars Anthony Ramos, Melissa Barrera, Stephanie Beatriz, Corey Hawkins, Dascha Polanco, Marc Anthony, Leslie Grace and Jimmy Smits.

This move is not unexpected considering Warner Bros. has had to reshuffle release dates for a plethora of films from their studio including Wonder Woman 1984, The Batman, Shazam! 2, The Flash and The Many Saints of Newark.
