Awkwafina Reportedly in Talks to voice Scuttle in Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean’s Eight star, Awkwafina, is in early talks to voice the knickknack collecting seagull, Scuttle, in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
This potential casting news comes a few days after it was revealed that Melissa McCarthy is in the early stages of negotiations to play the wicked sea witch, Ursula. Canadian rising star, Jacob Tremblay, is also reported to be in talks to voice Ariel’s best friend, Flounder.
The 1989 animated film, had Buddy Hackett provide his voice talents for the role of the dingle-hopper wielding sea bird.

With music from the original film, coupled with new music from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, this latest rendition of The Little Mermaid is set to be directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns).
With this latest round of casting news, many are anticipating the official announcements about who is set to play the titular character of Ariel, as well as Prince Eric, Sebastian the crab, and King Triton amongst others.
Awkwafina can next be heard in the upcoming Netflix series Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and return on the big screen in Jumanji: Next Level which is set to hit theaters this December.
