Melissa McCarthy in Early Talks to Play Ursula the Sea Witch in Disney’s Live-Action ‘The Little Mermaid’
With a string of television and film credits to her name, including two Academy Award nominations, Melissa McCarthy is in talks to star as the villainess Ursula in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid.
According to Variety, sources have said that the deal has not been completed. This is the first piece of news about the much buzzed about casting for the film, with many fans having their own wishes on who should play some of Disney’s most iconic animated characters in the live-action film.

The film will incorporate music from the original 1989 film, as well as original pieces from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Rob Marshall, who was recently tasked with helming Mary Poppins Returns, will take on the directing duties for The Little Mermaid with a script from David Magee.
McCarthy can next be seen in The Kitchen based on the Vertigo comic mini-series of the same name alongside Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss.
