Fancast: 5 Actors We Want To See Play Blue Beetle In Live-Action

A few years ago Warner Bros. and DC announced they are developing a Blue Beetle film. Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who recently penned the Scarface reboot, has been tasked with scripting duties for Blue Beetle.

The version of Blue Beetle we will be getting is Jaime Reyes, the third character to take on the mantle. Jaime is a Mexican-American teenager who finds an alien scarab that fuses with him while he sleeps. Shortly after he begins crimefighting and teaming up with iconic DC characters.

The film is in the early stages of development at Warner Bros., but that won’t stop us from wondering who will get the role of young Jaime Reyes.

Here are a few young talented Latinos that WB should perhaps consider:

Diego Tinoco as Blue Beetle

My first choice for the role goes to Diego Tinoco, who I believe is a perfect fit with the character. He is best known for his performance as Cesar Diaz on the hit Netflix series On My Block. Diego is able to convey a range of emotions that can flawlessly transition into the role of Jaime. Diego’s Cesar Diaz is a young brash teen dealing with life-changing decisions. He is brave, but often times reluctant. Diego proves more than capable for Jaime Reyes.

Jake T. Austin as Blue Beetle

Jake T. Austin is best known for his role as young Maz Russo on Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place and Jesus Foster on Freeform’s The Fosters. He also happens to have voiced Jaime Reyes Justice League vs Teen Titans, Teen Titans: Judas Contract, Justice League Action; so he is no stranger to the character. He looks the part and has proven to have great range as a young actor. He is practically Blue Beetle to a lot of people at this point and I could definitely see him portraying the character faithfully.

Jason Genao as Blue Beetle

On My Block offers us another great choice and I’m gonna through Jason Genao into the mix for the role. The character Jaime often has a laid-back, relaxed attitude when it comes to things, which is at odds with the scarab. Jason has proven to do well with balancing a relaxed yet frantic persona on On My Block, and he can nail Jaime Reyes’ mannerisms.

Marcel Ruiz as Blue Beetle

Marcel Ruiz is best known for his role as Alex on One Day at a Time. Marcel’s performance as the always cool, but sweet Alex makes him yet another excellent choice for Blue Beetle. Unlike the other actors mentioned thus far, Marcel might be considered too young to play the part, but I believe it’s fitting for an actual teenager to play a teenage superhero instead of a young adult.

Emjay Anthony as Blue Beetle

Emjay Anthony is a rising young actor who has starred in Chef and Krampus. He has yet to have a breakout role like my previous choices, but he has certainly piqued my interest. While some may also consider him too young to play the role, I repeat that a teen is more than capable of playing a teen. I believe Emjay is able to capture that childlike wonder that is needed for a superhero like Blue Beetle.

I look forward to re-reading some of my Blue Beetle comics, as well as seeing who they choose for the role. Hope you enjoyed this fancast; let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
