Idris Elba in Talks to Join the Cast of the Film Adaptation of ‘Cats’
Idris Elba (Luther, Thor) is in final negotiations to join the film adaptation of the famous musical Cats, starring Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Sir Ian McKellen and Taylor Swift.
Directed by Tom Hooper (Les Miserables, The King’s Speech), Cats will follow the story of the musical, following the story of a tribe of felines called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.
The character Elba is in talks to play is Macavity, a master criminal who wishes to be the one to ascend to Heaviside Layer.

Production on Cats is set to take place later this year in the U.K., with more of the cast set to be announced soon. Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) is in charge to be the one adapting Webber’s musical to the big screen.
Currently, Elba is filming Universal’s Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw.
