Anthony Ramos to Reteam With Lin-Manuel Miranda for ‘In the Heights’ Film

The film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s breakout hit musical In the Heights is gaining steam over at Warner Bros.

The musical focuses on the Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights during one cruel hot summer. Families and relationships collide when one lucky Bodega owner gets the opportunity of a lifetime by winning the lottery.

The film adaptation was originally set at the Weinstein Company, but after that ship sank Warner Bros. won the intense bidding war to take over. Lin-Manuel wrote and starred in the original Tony-winning Broadway production, but is only set to produce and look over the film. This leaves one big question- who will lead the film? Variety has the answer for they have just revealed that Anthony Ramos will star in the film.

Ramos has quite the year already. One might recognize him for he recently starred alongside Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born. He was also heavily featured on the recent seasons of NBC’s Will & Grace and Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It. One can also see him next year in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Broadway fans will be really happy with his In the Heights involvement because he also starred in Miranda’s recent Broadway smash, Hamilton. From one Manuel project to the other- one cannot deny Ramos’ raw talent.

Warner Bros.’ In the Heights will be directed by Crazy Rich Asians filmmaker Jon M. Chu. This small cast and crew so far already promise something spectacular. The report assumes that Ramos will be playing the lead of Usnavi.
