Ryan Coogler is officially set to write and direct Black Panther 2.
While this news isn’t surprising, it wasn’t official until today. Marvel Studios wanted to take things slow and took its time in making a deal for the sequel, keeping the creative team as intact as possible.

It’s become a defining cultural moment and touchstone, especially for the black community. Marvel is creating an an Oscar campaign for the film in nearly all categories, including Best Picture.
Coogler initially had hoped to include Kraven the Hunter as the villain in Black Panther, but wasn’t allowed to do so. It’s unknown if he’ll get to now, as Kraven appears to be wrapped up at Sony.
The goal is start production in either late 2019 or early 2020. Marvel hasn’t made any announcements about their film slate beyond Captain Marvel in March 2019, Avengers 4 in May, and Spider-Man: Far From Home in July. Marvel is also developing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Eternals, and a Black Widow solo film.
Coogler is developing the drama Wrong Answer with frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan. He is also executive producing Space Jam 2 starring LeBron James, as well as executive producing the upcoming Creed 2.
