Jen and Sylvia Soska to Bring Black Widow Back From the Dead for a New Solo Series

The new series marks the first time Black Widow will have a solo run after the Chris Samnee and Mark Waid 12-issue series in 2017.

The Soska Sisters have written comics for Marvel before. The duo wrote I Am Groot, the Avengers Halloween Special, and the Thanos Annual for the publisher. Marvel also released the sisters’ first comic book miniseries Secret Wars Journal back in 2015.

In an interview with Bustle, Jen Soska revealed what fans should expect from the new series:

“Our Natasha will be true to the Natasha we all love…But she is not in a good mood. You won’t see her feeling bad for putting more red on her ledger. She enjoys what she does. She’s damn good at it. She’s fearless. She’s lethal. She’s unstoppable. She’s the last person you want coming for you. Our Natasha isn’t following anyone’s rules so she’s completely unleashed.”

Black Widow #1 will feature art from Flaviano and a cover by Clayton Crain.

The new comic book series announcement follows the news that Cate Shortland has signed onto direct the first solo feature for Black Widow for the MCU.

The movie is in the early stages of development, while the Black Widow comic series is set to launch in January 2019.
