The newest and final trailer for Fantastic Beasts and the Crimes of Grindelwald was released and excitement certainly is growing as we near the film’s release, but one stunning surprise has got fans jumping out of their seats.

Nagini.

If you’ve followed the original series, you will know that Nagini was You-Know-Who’s trusted pet snake and (spoiler) one of the Horcruxes.  And, if you’re like me, you’ve believed this entire time that Nagini is just a snake.  But, like most things magic in the wizarding universe, not everything is as it seems.

Up until this trailer, Warner Bros. has been very quiet about Kim’s role in the film.  In a video featuring the cast of the latest installment of this series, actress Claudia Kim officially announced that she is Nagini.

Immediately, fans took to Twitter and asking J. K. Rowling several questions.  We’ve quickly learned that Nagini is a Maledictus, a person with a blood curse that cause the individual to slowly transform into a beast.  This is not like an Animagus, as a Maledictus has no control over this transformation.

Furthermore, Nagini is a member of the traveling Circus Arcanus, showing muggles her transformation as a sort of circus spectacle.

Claudia Kim is a South Korean actress who has starred in Marco Polo and Avengers: Age of Ultron.  We’re excited to see more of her in her slithery role as we learn more of Nagini’s background.

Are you shocked about Nagini’s history?  Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
