PlayStation Classic Won’t Receive Post-Launch Games
The announcement of PlayStation Classic, though divisive in many respects, was an exciting surprise. The miniature console will come packed with 20 pre-loaded PlayStation One titles. One question on the tongues of many is whether Sony plans to add more games to the PlayStation Classic after launch. According to an IGN report, this won’t be happening.
A PlayStation spokesperson confirmed the following to IGN: “There are no plans to bring new content to PlayStation Classic post-launch.” The spokesperson also addressed PSN functionality, stating the PS Classic won’t connect to PlayStation’s online ecosystem in any fashion. Therefore, trophies and other services aren’t on the cards. Unfortunately, earning a Platinum Trophy in Final Fantasy VII will have to wait until the remake eventually releases.

Thus far, Sony has only unveiled five games for its PlayStation Classic–Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms, and Final Fantasy VII. Announcements for the other 15 will trickle out as we get closer to launch.
PlayStation Classic pre-orders are currently live. The miniature console releases later this year on December 3, 2018 for $100 USD.
