Grant Gustin Shares New Details on ‘The Flash’ Season 5 Villain
For the second season in a row, The Flash won’t feature a Speedster as the big bad. Rather, the Season 5 foe will be a lesser known rogue named Cicada, who in the comics is most recognizable as a cult leader. The role he’ll play in The Flash remains relatively secret. However, the Scarlet Speedster himself, Grant Gustin, has recently teased what fans can expect from this version of Cicada.
According to Gustin, Cicada’s powers make him one of the show’s most intimidating threats yet. Apparently, he’s so intimidating that the actor compares him to Season 2 baddie, Zoom. Gustin told Entertainment Weekly,
He can dampen other metahuman powers, and we don’t know at first how he’s able to do that. He’s got an edge that no other big bad has ever had. We don’t know who he is. He’s mysterious. He’s just kind of an intimidating, big scary man that can render pretty much all of these metahuman superheroes useless. He comes on really hard and fast the first time we meet him, so right away there’s an intimidation factor that’s through the roof, similar to Zoom.
If Cicada doesn’t sound horrifying enough, his presence certainly made him seem the part during The Flash’s SDCC 2018 trailer. Thankfully, the wait to learn more is nearly at an end.
The Flash returns Tuesday, October 9 on The CW.
