Dominic Monaghan Joins ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’
Despite the cast list officially being revealed last month, it appears Star Wars: Episode IX isn’t finished adding new cast members just yet. Dominic Monaghan is the latest to come aboard the final installment in the sequel trilogy.
The Lord of the Rings star has publicly expressed his desire to take part in the galaxy far, far away. “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved,” Monaghan said in a statement.

Monaghan joins Star Wars newcomers Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell. Russell played Felicity Porter on Felicity, which Abrams co-created. Monaghan played Charlie Pace on Lost, also co-created by Abrams. Fans can only guess who these new cast members will be portraying in Episode IX, as no details have been given. Though with the film currently shooting, the truth will be revealed soon enough.
Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Michelle Rejwan, and executive produced by Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin. Frequent Abrams collaborator Dan Mindel is returning as Director of Photography. Victoria Mahoney is serving as 2nd Unit Director, becoming the first black female director of the franchise.
Star Wars: Episode IX releases in theaters on December 20, 2019.
