Tessa Thompson to Voice Lady in Disney’s Live-Action ‘Lady and the Tramp’
Disney is really laying all their cards down on the table for their planned paid streaming service set to launch next year. Besides boasting a large library of Disney television and films, it will be home to the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series revival and a live-action Lady and the Tramp remake.
The film is set to combine CGI with live-action effects for the talking dogs. The remake has already cast Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) voicing Tramp and Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Lady’s human owner Darling. Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, it is now known who will be voicing Lady and it is the one and only graceful, Tessa Thompson.

This marks the rare instance of Thompson doing voice work instead of onscreen acting. Her co-star Theroux is no stranger to the craft for he can be heard voicing a villain later this year in Bumblebee. The past year has been quite the year for Thompson with the release of Thor: Ragnarok, Annihilation, and Sorry To Bother You. She was also seen in the critically acclaimed HBO series Westworld and numerous Janelle Monáe projects. Besides Lady and the Tramp, she will be starring in the upcoming Creed II and untitled Men in Black spin-off.
Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) and Ashley Jensen (Extras) will also be lending their voices to other dog characters. Wong will voice the English bulldog Bull and Jensen voice the Scottish Terrier Jackie. Charlie Bean (The Lego Ninjago Movie) is directing with a script penned by the upcoming Andrew Bujalski.
The question of this reboot gathering audiences does not even need to be raised with such a stellar cast and crew. Thompson voicing Lady could not be a more perfect choice to bring in new flavor to an old classic.
