Stevenson, who was a founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, represented a young Black man named Walter McMillan who was sentenced for a crime he did not commit. Despite having a proven alibi, McMillan was convicted, spending six years on death row before being exonerated.
Jamie Foxx is also on board for the film, with Destin Cretton (Short Term 12) set to direct. Cretton also co-wrote the script with Andrew Lanham; while Jordan is set to produce alongside Gil Netter and Asher Goldstein.
The production for Just Mercy is set to begin in Atlanta next month.
