‘Altered Carbon’ Renewed for Season 2 with Anthony Mackie as Lead
Netflix original Altered Carbon has officially been renewed for a second season, but some major changes have been made.
Alison Schapker (Scandal, The Flash) has signed on as co-showrunner alongside Laeta Kalogridis. The sci-fi drama has also cast MCU’s Anthony Mackie in the leading role of Takeshi Kovacs. Mackie will be stepping in for Joel Kinnaman, who played the character during the first season.

Fans of the drama will understand why this makes sense, as the series is based around characters who have conquered human mortality and take new “sleeves”, or bodies after death. The season one finale ended with–spoiler alert–Kovacs assuming a new identity, which was revealed only by a silhouette.
Kinnaman only had a one-year contract with Netflix, and he announced his departure from the series not long after it debuted. The Suicide Squad star has signed on to star in a reboot of Joe Wright’s Hanna for Netflix rival Amazon.
An episode count or release date have not been announced yet.
