Freeform Renews Marvel’s ‘Cloak & Dagger’ For Season 2

Marvel’s latest series offering, Cloak & Dagger, has been renewed by Freeform for a second season. The announcement was made during the show’s first appearance at San Diego Comic-Con by the executive producers Joe Pokaski and Jeph Loeb.

The series is an adaptation based on comics of the same name, created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. However, the characters first made an appearance in comic published 1982 which had duo star alongside Peter Parker. The Freeform series stars Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, who portray the show’s leads Tandy and Tyrone respectively, as well as Emma Lahana, Ally Maki, and Gloria Reuben.

The series follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson “who are two different kids from very different backgrounds but who find themselves burdened by and awakened to newly discovered superpowers,” making them the actual manifestations of light and dark – powers which are mysteriously linked to one another. The show explores themes of addiction, police brutality and fate, while remaining a gritty superhero drama.

Set to return with a 10-episode second season in spring 2019, the renewal expands the Marvel TV universe, which includes Hulu’s The Runaways, ABC’s Agents of SHIELD and Fox’s The Gifted to name a few. Already breaking records, the premiere was “Freeform’s number one series debut in two and a half years with 4.4 million viewers across all platforms.”
