Michael Cudlitz Returning to ‘The Walking Dead’ to Direct an Episode for Season 9

Jon Bernthal isn’t the only Walking Dead alum returning to the series in Season 9. Michael Cudlitz, who brought Abraham Ford to life for three seasons, will make a comeback as well. Whereas Bernthal’s role remains a mystery (though he’ll likely appear in a flashback or dream sequence), Cudlitz’ contribution to the show’s ninth run is not being kept secret. He won’t appear on-screen, however. Cudlitz’ role is strictly behind the camera.

Interestingly, Cudlitz will be the first actor from the series to direct an episode. Which episode he’ll helm has yet to be revealed. Perhaps this news will come out of the forthcoming SDCC panel or as we edge closer to Season 9’s premiere this fall.

Since leaving The Walking Dead following the Season 7 premiere, wherein Abraham was brutally slaughtered by Negan, Cudlitz has kept busy. He’s appeared in the TV movie comedy, The Trustee, guest starred on Young Sheldon, and will star in ABC’s upcoming television series, The Kids are Alright.

The Walking Dead’s ninth run begins airing in October.
