Danai Gurira in Talks for ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ and Next ‘Star Trek’ Film

After jumping from The Walking Dead to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Danai Gurira is now in talks to join Legendary and Warner Bros’ Monsterverse.

Gurira would be joining the fourth installment in the cinematic universe, after Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Godzilla Vs. Kong is set for release on May 22, 2020. The cast includes Julian Dennison, Van Marten, Ziyi Zhang, Millie Bobby Brown, and Kyle Chandler. Legendary has also reportedly offered a lead role to Frances McDormand. Principal photography is set to begin in Atlanta on October 1, 2018.

Gurira is also in talks for Paramount’s next Star Trek film, to be directed by S.J. Clarkson. The British director is the first woman to helm a film in the spacefaring universe. Her most recent work includes episodes of Orange Is the New Black, Jessica Jones, Defenders, and Collateral. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are co-writing the screenplay, with J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber producing.

Gurira joined The Walking Dead as the katana-wielding Michonne in the show’s third season. She then went on to play Okoye, the head of the Dora Milaje, in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. She’s received critical acclaim for both roles.
