Incredibles 2 Breaks Domestic Animation Box Office Record

That Incredibles 2 continues to garner meteoric success at the box office should surprise no one. This sequel’s been a long time coming; thus, fans are eager to see what’s at stake for the Parr family during their new adventure. If this weekend’s early box office numbers are any indication, the excitement has yet to simmer down.

While Ant-Man and the Wasp takes the top spot, as the film’s expected to earn $83M this weekend, Incredibles 2 is estimated to add another $31M to its haul in weekend number four. Such success ensures Pixar’s latest reaches the $500M earned milestone at the U.S. box office. The only other animated feature to come close is another Pixar sequel–Finding Dory, which took home $486M at the end of its domestic run in theaters.

This benchmark puts the Incredibles in the interesting company of other films, as well. Incredibles 2 will become the twelfth movie to gross $500M in the U.S. Additionally, within the next week, the film is primed to enter the top ten for highest grossing movies at the domestic box office. Should Incredibles 2 do so, it will knock Rogue One, which grossed $532M, from the number ten spot.
