Nicolas Cage definitely seems to be in the comeback stage of his career. With recent films like Joe and upcoming releases like Mandy, Cage is leaving the silliness of Ghost Rider in the past by proving that his name carries heavy weight. However, everyone knows that Cage likes to have fun so he cannot possibly abandon the superhero genre. He can be heard voicing the one and only Superman later this year in Warner Bros. Animation’s Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. The rest of 2018 already has good things in store for Cage, but the man just does not know when to stop. Reports have now broken that he will be voicing another superhero this year, but this time in an animated Marvel film.
Cage will be voicing Spider-Man Noir, one of the most popular alternate Spider-Men from a different reality, later this year in Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The news originally broke from the fresh twitter news site Discussing Film but has since been confirmed by Collider. No other information regarding the role was released, but it is fair to assume that casting a big name like Cage means that Noir will be more than just a short cameo.
For those unfamiliar with Spider-Man Noir, he is just one of many different Spider-Men from alternate realities. Noir comes from a reality set in the 30s during the great depression. Unlike other alternate Spider-Men who are completely different people (Miles Morales for example), Noir is an alternate version of Peter Parker. Because of the setting he lives in- he dawns a costume that looks more spy/detective like and uses actual guns along with webs to fight mob bosses in New York.
Into the Spider-Verse already had a lot of anticipation surrounding it due to the unique animation and focus on the fan favorite Miles Morales. Spider-Gwen was also revealed to be in the film in the last trailer. It was then confirmed that she will be voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. With the inclusion of other spider characters voiced by big names, many are speculating what role they could possibly have in the film? What other alternate Spider-Men have also not been revealed and just how deep will the film explore Marvel’s “Spider-Verse”?
