Jared Leto to Star in ‘Morbius’ Film for Sony Pictures
Sony Pictures is just the gift that keeps on giving. They are hard at work building an expansive cinematic universe around characters made popular by every comic and animated series starring our favorite wallcrawler, Spider-Man. Later this year we have a stand alone Venom film and an animated feature centered on Miles Morales. Along with the Silver & Black team up film in active development, Sony has also announced that they are developing a stand alone film based on Korean-American hero, Cindy Moon.
Now, The Hollywood Reporter is confirming that Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto has been tapped to portray the living vampire himself, Morbius, in a stand alone feature film to be directed by Daniel Espinosa (Safe House, Easy Money).
Morbius, the living vampire, is somewhat of an antihero. He used to be a scientist by the name of Dr. Michael Morbius who suffered from a rare blood disease. He tried to cure himself but instead the disastrous procedure gave him a condition that was a form of vampirism. He had a thirst for blood, gained fangs and super strength. He was a consistent enemy of Spider-Man but became a hero in his own right and even got his own comic series.
Plot details on the film have not been released but the script will be helmed by writing duo Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, the creative minds behind the Netflix series Lost In Space. Leto is no stranger to playing villains as he portrayed the iconic Joker in Suicide Squad and a sadistic character in Bladerunner 2049. So Morbius is another iconic character he can add to his resume of larger-than-life characters. What do you think of his casting? Excited for a Morbius film? Share your thoughts in the commens below.
