Command & Conquer is back from the dead. The legendary real-time strategy game series is returning in a format you might not have been expecting. EA made the surprising announcement during its E3 2018 press conference, Command & Conquer: Rivals will be launched on both Android and iOS platforms this year.

EA’s Command & Conquer: Rivals wants to be the successor of the beloved RTS (real-time strategy) franchise but is, in fact, a competitive real-time strategy game.

In Command & Conquer: Rivals, players choose a Commander to lead their forces, each with his own abilities that can influence the gameplay style. The objective of the game is to destroy the enemy base by conquering and holding a missile launch pad long enough for a missile to lock on.

It takes two missiles to destroy a base, so games shouldn’t take too long. You’ll be able to create various combinations of infantry, tanks, aircraft, and high-tech behemoths to try and hold the missile launch pad long enough to destroy the enemy base.

Players who pre-register will get the Early Bird Bundle, which includes a Titan unit, Diamonds, and Credits, when Rivals launches worldwide. On top of that, Android users can also try out the alpha version of the game if they pre-register.

This is the first Command & Conquer game since 2012’s Tiberium Alliances, a free-to-play online-only browser game. There was a Generals 2 in development at one point, as a free-to-play PC game, but it was cancelled after feedback from its alpha trial.

Android users can pre-register to play an early access version of Rivals on the Google Play Store store right now.
