Shonda Rhimes’ First Netflix Project to be Series Surrounding Con Artist Anna Delvey
Shonda Rhimes’ next series is moving from primetime to anytime as Shondaland acquires the rights to the New York Magazine article, “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler to be made as a series for streaming giant Netflix.
Anna Delvey spent years conning various people as well as different financial institutions in order to fund her lifestyle of pretending to be a wealthy German heiress in New York’s high society. Delvey is currently being held without bond in New York’s Rikers Island prison.
The New York Magazine article, as well as a Vanity Fair piece by Rachel DeLoache Williams, have been making the rounds and stars like Jennifer Lawrence and Margot Robbie have apparently expressed interest in playing Delvey who has apparently been making calls to different talent agencies and producers regarding who she thinks will be the best fit.
This will be Rhimes’ first project since signing her Netflix deal last August which would see her leaving ABC Studios after 15 years for a currently undisclosed amount of years with the streamer. Rhimes has stated however that she will still be involved with her shows still currently airing on ABC including, “Grey’s Anatomy,” “For the People,” “Station 19,” and “How to Get Away with Murder.”
