‘Ocean’s 8’ Release Set to Take In $40 Million Heist for Opening Weekend
The gender-swapped caper movie Ocean’s 8 was just released yesterday on June 8, 2018 and has already gotten itself high on this weekend’s box office charts. On opening day, the film pulled in $15.8 million, setting it for a domestic launch that should land the movie in the $40 million range. Not factoring inflation, this movie is the best showing of the Ocean’s series.
It seems likely that Ocean’s 8 will easily rob the number one spot off the box office charts, away from the reigning Solo: A Star Wars Story. But with the galactic film in its third weekend of release, it may find its spot stolen by the all-female leading cast of the heist movie.
Ocean’s 8 stars Sandra Bullock who is Debbie Ocean, estranged sister of Danny Ocean who was portrayed by George Clooney in the original film series. And the spin-off follows a similar format to the original formula, with Ocean being released from prison and then gathering up her trusted all-female team of criminal specialists, plotting to rob the Met Gala in New York.
