‘Atlanta’ Renewed For a Third Season
To the surprise of no one, it has been announced that Donald Glover’s popular FX series Atlanta has been picked up for a third season. If you haven’t been watching, Atlanta focuses on the adventures of two cousins navigating Hotlanta’s rap scene as they attempt to better their own lives and the lives of their loved ones.
The series was first developed in August 2013 before getting picked up to series with a 10-episode order in October 2015. The series also has all-black writing staff, including Glover himself, his brother Stephen, and members of his rap collective ‘Royalty’ which includes his manager Fam Udeorji, Jamal Olori, and one of the writers for Man Seeking Woman, Stefani Robinson.
The second season, just like the first, has been met with critical acclaim and has featured several hard-hitting and memorable episodes, one, in particular, being episode six, “Teddy Perkins”.
Nick Grad, the FX president of Original Programming, had this to say about the show:
“Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done. With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”
Season three is expected to premiere on FX sometime in 2019.
