Mexican star Eugenio Derbez has joined Paramount’s live-action Dora the Explorer movie. He will star opposite Peruvian-American actress Isabela Moner (Transformers: The Last Knight) who is playing the titular role.
The movie is based on the popular Nickelodeon children’s show, and it will follow a teenage Dora as she goes on adventures with her best friend Boots the monkey and her cousin Diego. Details about Derbez’s character are yet to be revealed, but he is reportedly playing a villain named Alejandro Gutierrez.
The Dora the Explorer movie will be directed by James Robin (The Muppets) and the screenplay is being written by Nick Stoller (The Muppets, Storks) alongside Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (New Girl).
Dora will begin production in Queensland, Australia soon and will hit theaters on August 2, 2019.
