Warner Bros. will be expanding on Jared Leto’s Joker that made it’s debut in Suicide Squad in 2016. Variety is reporting that Jared Leto will continue to star, but he will also executive produce the stand alone film.

Warner Bros. has yet to reveal plot details, however the studio’s plans to expand on the world created by the Suicide Squad. In addition, Harley Quinn will receive her own stand alone film with Birds of Prey. 

The film will not take place in the DCEU and will be part of the a new origins series which will be spearheaded by Director Todd Phillips. This new series will allow multiple actors to play the same character with no overlap.

The film has yet to sign a writer and word about the beginning of production has not yet been revealed. It’s also unclear whether or not the film would begin production before or after the sequel of Suicide Squad which will go into production next year.
